Dr. Guatelli is trained in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases. He is a Staff Physician at the VA San Diego Healthcare System, where he provides primary care for persons living with HIV and consultation regarding infectious diseases. He is a Professor of Medicine at the University of California San Diego. Dr. Guatelli’s basic science lab studies the molecular virology of HIV-1 and SARS-CoV-2 with a focus on the interactions between viral and cellular proteins.
